How/Why did Mai from the future Trunks, in Dragon Ball Super get young
Introduced in the series' very first story arc, Mai has been a part of Dragon Ball since the beginning. While she may not have been as integral to the series' identity or plot as Goku and Bulma were, it's worth noting that Mai was indeed there early on.

In Dragon Ball Super, the character Mai, a member of Pilaf's gang, has been de-aged and is now a child, closer in age to young Trunks. The de-aging of Mai has caused an unusual romantic interest between her and both Future Trunks and present-day Trunks.

Mai is introduced in Dragon Ball Super as a child just a little taller than Trunks and assumed to be around 12 years old. This was backed by the DBS manga in 2016 as well. The Pilaf Gang used the Dragon Balls to make themselves younger, as mentioned above. They reverted to infancy around the same time that Trunks was a baby.

Dragon Ball Wikia says At some point before May 12th, Age 767, Mai and the other Pilaf Gang members managed to use the Dragon Balls to wish for youth. In 767, Mai makes a wish, in the same year the androids appear, and Future Trunks follows them back. Present Trunks is one year old.

Future Mai is the tritagonist that appears during the Future Trunks Saga in Dragon Ball Super, she is the future counterpart to Mai. She is voiced by Eiko Yamada in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Colleen Clinkenbeard in the English version of the anime. Compared to the Mai from Dragon Ball, Future Mai is a young-looking and tall woman with fair skin with black hair along with bangs.

Why is Mai a kid in Dragon Ball Super? Mai is a human who is part of Emperor Pilaf's Gang. She always works with Shu and although she is very smart, the two of them always manage to miss their targets, but unlike other villains (aside from not having physical strength) they never give up.

She débuts in the first portion of the series, serving as Pilaf's henchmen along with her partner Shū, with the goals of assisting her boss's goal of collecting the Dragon Balls so he can wish to rule over the world. But their goals were always thwarted by Son Gokū and his friends.
